Direct Debit Payments

We're excited to announce that you can now accept Direct Debit payments on teamup through our partnership with GoCardless, "The next generation of Direct Debit."

  • Fees are just 1% on all transactions. No hidden fees. No additional monthly fees. Just 1%. Read more about GoCardless' pricing at https://gocardless.com/pricing (teamup will not charge additional transaction fees on top of GoCardless' fees)
  • Quick settlement times. You'll receive money in 4-6 business days.

You'll get all of the benefits of Direct Debit without any of the hassle.

  • No more paper Direct Debit forms - your members can set up the Direct Debit online through their membership page on teamup.
  • No need to check your bank account every month - with traditional direct debit, you need to check your bank account to see which transactions have come through. With teamup, you'll be able to see all of your pending, completed, and failed transfers from within teamup.
  • No more manual file uploads - with traditional direct debit, you need to upload a batch file every month. Teamup initiates Direct Debits automatically based on the membership's billing schedule.

Here are some guides for getting started:

  1. To enable GoCardless Direct Debit on your business account, follow these steps (it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes).
  2. Once you do, your members can follow these steps to transfer existing memberships onto GoCardless.

Our partnership with GoCardless is just part of our commitment to providing the best software for UK based businesses. Thank you to those of you that helped us get started in 2012. We look forward to showing you what else we can do in 2013.

SMS Waiting List Notifications

The results of our survey are in, and an overwhelming majority of our customers wanted SMS waiting list notifications. We're pleased to announce that we built an SMS notification system, and that our trial has gone well.

The SMS system is an add-on each gym can choose to activate. Assuming your gym has enabled the SMS system and you've enabled SMS Waitlist Notifications and verified your number, you'll get a text when you're on the waitlist for a class and a spot opens up for you. If we can autobook you into the class, the message will simply confirm that you've been added to the class. If not, the message will tell you how to respond in order to reserve your spot. If you have already reached your maximum allowed registrations for the day, the SMS will contain a link to teamup, where you'll be able to resolve your registrations.

We're excited to hear what you think. As always, send feedback to team@goteamup.com, or click the Feedback link the upper right corner at goteamup.com.

Introducing Courses

We released Courses this week. A Course is a group of sessions that must be registered for together. Many of you offer an on-ramp or Fundamentals Course, where you acclimate new members over a series of sessions. You can use Courses for Fundamentals, or any other multi-session offering. Your members can register for Courses via widgets (the Courses tab is next to Memberships) or on goteamup.com.

A step-by-step setup guide is available in our support center.

As always, we hope this makes life easier for you and your members. Feedback is always welcome at team@goteamup.com.

Waiting List Improvements

We’ve had lots of great feedback about waitlisting at teamup. An effective waitlist cuts back on the number of members who want to attend sessions but can’t. We’ve improved waitlisting to be as fair and efficient as possible for businesses and members.

Here’s what we’ve done.

  1. Auto-join classes from the waitlist.  If you’re on the waitlist for a class that’s far enough in the future and a spot becomes available, we’ll automatically book you into the class. Each business defines what “far enough in the future” means. If the class is happening soon, you’ll still need to accept the spot on teamup to reserve your place in the class.
  2. No more 4am waitlist spot expirations.  Before, if a reserved spot in a class became available at 4am and you only had 30 minutes to accept the spot, it would expire at 4:30am.  Teamup’s new and improved waitlisting features a “blackout period” that each business sets. No waitlist spots will expire during that blackout period. For example, let’s say the gym’s blackout period is 11pm-7am. If you get a spot off the waitlist at 11:45pm and you have 30 minutes to accept it, you actually have until 7:30am the next day.
  3. “The Hangover Rule”.  Let’s say your gym allows cancellations up to 1 hour before the class starts. This makes a lot of sense for a 6pm class. If a member cancels at 4:30pm, it’s likely someone on the waitlist will be around to claim the spot. However, weekend morning classes are a different story. Some businesses have complained about members cancelling out of their 9am Saturday morning classes at 3am, when the thought of working out at 9am isn’t as appealing as it might have been when they first registered for the class. To address this, blackout time no longer applies to the cancellation cutoff. For example, if the class is at 9am, the blackout period is 11pm-7am, and the cancellation cutoff is 3 hours, you actually have to cancel before 10pm the night before. In other words, you need to give 3 “non-blackout” hours of notice.

Still to come: Look out for SMS waitlist notifications in the not-too-distant future.

Pounds and Pence

Over the past 6 weeks, we've been piloting teamup at several UK based fitness businesses.  Coaches, business owners, and members have had overwhelmingly positive feedback.  Here's some of what they have to say:

"This website is so easy to use it's ridiculous"
-Jordan, owner/coach at Reebok CrossFit TyneSide

"It's so much simpler"
-Charles, member at In2CrossFit comparing teamup to In2's old system

"Booking classes is very easy to do"
-Darren, member at CrossFit Bold

"I am very impressed with the system and the support"
-Phil, owner/coach at CrossFit Wyre Forest

From the feedback we've received and the stats we're seeing, teamup is ready to expand to more businesses in both the UK and US.  You can read in depth about all the great features teamup has to offer, but here are the big ones:

  • No Merchant Account Necessary - get up and running in hours, not weeks
  • Great Processing Rate and Simple Pricing - £50 per month and 2%+10p per transaction.  That's less expensive than MindBody and ZenPlanner once you add in their hidden fees and actual processing rates.
  • Payments and Registration Directly on Your Site - maintain your name and brand.
  • Free Trial Wizard - walk new members through creating an account and signing up for a free class.

Sound like something that could help your business?  Sign up for an account and we'll get in touch to confirm your details.  Have a question?  Send a message to team@goteamup.com and we'll get back to you right away.

Are you looking for a better way to manage and grow your fitness business? We’ve been working on just that...

We’ve made big improvements to our business tools. teamup can now be used as your primary scheduling, registration and payments system.

Teamup_training_llc_dashboard

The features that we’ve added include:

  • Site integration use teamup to publish schedules, and accept registrations and payments on your own website. You’ll never have to send your customers to a third party web page to sign up for a class or to make a membership payment again. And the best bit is it is as easy to add to your site as a Google calendar. You can see it in action on Water World Swim’s website

Water_word_registration

  • Memberships Sell and manage a number of different membership types and class packages using teamup. You can set up month-to-month memberships, longer-term memberships with monthly recurring billing, year long memberships, and class packs (e.g. a 20 class pass).

Memberships

  • Daily ACH payments To save you (and us) time we’ve added automatic ACH payments. Payments can be set up to run daily or weekly depending on the volume of your transactions. You can keep going with checks if that is the way you like to do things.

Ach_payments

  • Invoicing and daily summary emails We’ve automated your accounting. All your payments will be accompanied by an electronic invoice with an itemized breakdown of all your registrations and membership payments. You can also opt in to receive daily emails summarizing all of the activity on your account.
  • Contact manager Keep track of all your past and present customers, their membership status and their personal details. You can also export email addresses to Constant Contact to make sure you don’t miss anyone on your email blasts.
  • Pricing We’ve added another monthly pricing option that lets you use all of our tools and process credit card payments at cost. You can still start out by paying per transaction if you are going to be doing a small volume. Ask us how to get you first month of teamup for free.

All these changes mentioned above are live on teamup from today. We will be adding digital waivers, new customer specials (e.g. allowing first timers to sign up to their first class for free), an automated referral system to help grow your customer base and widgets for your facebook page. All your classes and memberships will also be promoted on goteamup.com. If you think of other features that would be game changers for your business, please contact us at team@goteamup.com

If you are reading this and you are not a fitness business but are a customer at a great bootcamp or fitness studio that could do a better job managing schedules and payments please tell them about our work at teamup.

thanks,
the teamup team
